Description
Founded in 2014 by Jody Nixon, a certified instructor in Equine-Facilitated Learning and Human Development, Metaphorse was built with a mission to bring retired horses and humans together to create lasting, transformative change. Gounded in the profound healing potential of the horse-human relationship, we’ve pioneered innovative approaches to emotional healing, personal development, and therapeutic care. Our nonprofit is small but mighty and we have big hearted ambitions:
Our heart lies with the older horse, dedicating our mission to breaking the cycle that all too often leads from auction to slaughter. With an average age of 26, our horses span the full range from spirited 5-year-olds to wise elders of 39. Our vision for younger horses is to offer them training and then match them with exceptional new homes where they can thrive. For the older horses, Metaphorse serves as a sanctuary, a place where they are cherished and protected until their last days, when they will be humanely laid to rest. In cases when we rehome any horse, young or old, we ensure their safety through a signed agreement: if circumstances change and they can no longer be cared for, they are always welcome to return home to us.
